Bergvogt (viticulture)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mountain bailiff or head winemaker supervised a large vineyard or several small ones, and he also worked a part of the mountain himself. He took his oath of office to the (head) country wine master , the responsible clerk, the responsible mountain administrator and all subordinate winemakers .

The Bergvogt was responsible for the winegrowers who were subordinate to him and who were bound by contract and oath of office, who each worked on a part of the mountain with the help of their subordinate winemakers (wage servants).
