Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies
The Berlin-Brandenburger Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) is a scientific research center of the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht GmbH . It was founded in 2006 and is financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the states of Berlin and Brandenburg and the two partners. The BCRT is a founding member of the national initiative for regenerative medicine ( Regenerative Medicine Initiative Germany , RMIG) and the Regenerative Medicine Initiative Berlin-Brandenburg (RMIB).
The BCRT is an interdisciplinary translation center that researches the body's own healing. Based on this, novel therapies and diagnostics are developed. Clinicians, researchers and engineers work hand in hand on the medicine of the future: patient-friendly medicine in which the disease is detected early in order to optimally use the patient's individual healing potential.
research
At the BCRT, scientists conduct research in the four clinical areas
- Musculoskeletal system
- Cardiovascular system
- immune system
- Tissue homeostasis and cachexia
as well as the three cross-sectional technology platforms
- Polymer-based biomaterials
- In situ tissue engineering
- Molecular Analysis and Engineering.
This is what the scientists at BCRT are working on:
- Development of methods and tools for regenerative therapies based on immune and stem cells , biomaterials, biologically active factors and combinations thereof
- Development of biomarkers for the optimal use of these new, regenerative therapies with the aim of selecting the therapy appropriate to the needs of the patient and at the optimal time
- Implementation of research results in preclinical and clinical studies for the development of regenerative therapies
- Targeted training of a new generation of scientists, qualified doctors, natural scientists and engineers who conduct both basic and applied research in the field of regenerative therapies (see BSRT)
- Promotion of partnerships with health insurance companies, regulatory authorities, experts in health economics as well as with representatives and partners from the biotech and pharmaceutical industries
- Integration in regional, national and international scientific and organizational networks
- Communicate the objectives and results of the BCRT with the scientific, political and general public
Infrastructure
The BCRT is headed by a trio of directors: Hans-Dieter Volk (director), Georg Duda (deputy director) and Andreas Lendlein (deputy director). The directors represent the center internally and externally and lead the scientific and administrative work.
The steering committee advises on all scientific, technical and organizational questions. It plans u. a. new research programs and advertises professorships at the BCRT. In addition, the steering committee develops evaluation concepts in order to check the success of the scientific work at the BCRT.
The scientific-technical advisory board advises the directorate on scientific questions. The advisory board is made up of external personalities from science and business. The Advisory Board has a minimum of three and a maximum of eleven members appointed by the Board of Directors, the BCRT Research Groups and the BCRT Partners.
