The Berlin Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine , BGKJ for short , sees itself as representing the interests of paediatricians in Berlin .

It is an unregistered association based in Berlin . Its members include Berlin paediatricians, inter alia, in the clinic , in the public health service or independent practice .

The association goes back to the Berlin "Association for Internal Medicine and Paediatrics" founded in Berlin in 1909 and the association of the "Berlin Society for Pediatrics" with its first chairman Adalbert Czerny, which emerged on May 15, 1931 .

Today's society was founded in West Berlin on December 14, 1977 as the "Berlin Pediatric Society". The name had been chosen as long as the division of the city made a (all) Berlin Society for Pediatrics after the old model impossible.

With the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 , the general meeting decided at the end of 1991, at the suggestion of the board, to rename the society back to the “Berlin Society for Pediatrics” in order to resume the entire Berlin tradition. In 2002 the name was changed to "Berlin Society for Child and Adolescent Medicine".
