Berlin children's theater
The Berliner Kindertheater - theater by big people for small people e. V. (BKT) is a non-profit theater association in Berlin that was founded in November 1986.
The BKT drama theater for children ( theater for children ) offers . The BKT is a professional children's theater. In accordance with its charitable purpose, the BKT promotes by conceiving and developing cultural projects and also providing advice. In addition to drama productions, the BKT also organizes other cultural projects beyond theatrical performances, which are usually publicly funded.
The aim of his pieces is to use comedic forms to show that good and bad never exist in their purest form, but that it is precisely this mixture that defines being human, without propagating irresponsibility. Stylistically, the "pedagogical index finger" is avoided. In terms of content, the great classics of world children's literature, from Pippi Longstocking to Pettson and Findus , are staged in large rows that are played en-suite.
The theater is freely financed. The shortfall is covered by private commitment, including that of the members. Performances are currently (since 2007) taking place en-suite at two venues. In summer the open-air stage at the citadel is used , in winter the "Fontane House in the Märkisches Viertel" is played.
BKT's projects include:
- Conception and organization of the first “Berlin Children's Theater Festival East-West” (East and West Berlin) in 1990 and 1991
- “Kindertheaterkooperative Kreuzberg”: coordinated association of independent organizations with municipal institutions
- "Mute SCREAM - Initiative against Discrimination and Racism" sponsored by BKT
- first family theater series in 2005 in the Spandau cultural summer under the patronage of the Swedish embassy
The BKT is a member of "www.berlin-buehnen.de", where its events are also published. In addition, since January 2013 the BKT has been represented in the "State Association of Independent Theaters Berlin".
