Berlinghiero Berlinghieri
Berlinghiero Berlinghieri (* Milan ; verifiable from 1228 in Lucca ; † before or around 1242 in Lucca) was an Italian painter.
In addition to a crucifix signed Berlingerius me pinxit in Lucca, there are only two other documents in which Berlinghiero Berlinghieri is mentioned. The first from 1228 describes him as a native of Milan. The second says that he has already passed away.
Berlinghiero Berlinghieri was still strongly influenced by the formal language of Byzantine painting , but he knew how to design it in his own way and individually, so that his pictures show a considerable further development of the given patterns. His skills set the style for subsequent artists and were mainly carried on by his sons Bonaventura , Barone and Marco . His fame was obviously great enough during his lifetime that he also had a lasting influence on painters from other areas. In Florence and the surrounding area in particular , his conception of art fell on fertile ground and influenced such artists as the Master of Bigallo or the Master of the Cross No. 434 .
Based on his only secured work, the crucifix painted in Lucca around 1220, research ascribes a few other works to him, but the relationship between him and his sons is not always secure.
