Bernard Durkan (born March 26, 1945 in Killasser , County Mayo ) is an Irish politician and has been a member of the lower house of the Irish Parliament since 1982 .

Durkan was first elected to the 22nd Dáil Éireann in 1981 for Fine Gael . He was unable to defend his seat in the February 1982 elections. Instead, Durkan was elected to the 16th Seanad Éireann . When elections for the Dáil Éireann were necessary again in the same year, Durkan ran again for his party. This time he managed to win a mandate and to keep it in the following elections. During his time as a Member of Dáil Éireann Durkan had until 26 June 1997, the Office of 20 December 1994 Minister of State for Social Welfare (Minister of State at the Department of Social Welfare) held.
