Bernard I. (Berga)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernard I ( Catalan Bernat ; † between 1050 and 1052) was a Count of Besalú from the House of Barcelona . He was a younger son of Count Wilfried II of Cerdanya .

In his will of 1035 Wilfried II had decreed that his younger son Bernard should receive the county of Berga. He was to hold this as a fiefdom for twelve years from the hands of his eldest brother Raimund Wilfried , who should therefore be superior to him under feudal law. Should Bernard die childless, Berga would go to the youngest brother Berengar .

Bernard is documented for the last time on August 20, 1050. His brother Berengar is first mentioned on June 19, 1052 as Count von Berga.
