Bernhard Rive

P. Bernhard Rive SJ (born December 11, 1824 in Dorsten ; † July 30, 1884 ) was a German preacher and theologian who belonged to the Jesuit order .

Life

He was ordained a priest on December 2, 1848 and entered the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) on March 19, 1851. He worked as cathedral preacher in Trier , Paderborn , Munster and Cologne ; his speaking style was considered theologically sound and rhetorically impressive. Because of the Jesuit law in the context of the Kulturkampf (1872) he had to emigrate from Germany to Belgium. There he wrote a distinguished book on marriage , which was published for the first time in 1876 and revised for the second time in 1921.
