Bernhard Stribrny

Bernhard Stribrny (* 1952 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German geologist. From 2005 to 2006 he was President of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR).

Stribrny studied geology at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and received his doctorate in mineralogy in 1981. 1981 to 1991 he was an assistant at the TH Karlsruhe . In 1990 he completed his habilitation at the University of Frankfurt in geochemistry, petrology and reservoir science. He has lectured at the universities of Frankfurt am Main, Karlsruhe, Hanover and Freiburg im Breisgau (where he has been honorary professor since 2003).

In 1991 he became a consultant at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in the section "Securing and final storage of radioactive waste". In 1994 he became head of the mineralogy and deposit research group at BGR and in 2001 head of the State Office for Geology, Raw Materials and Mining Baden-Württemberg. From 2005 to 2006 he was President of the BGR.

He has been the scientific coordinator of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research in Frankfurt am Main since 2007 and has been the project group leader for transfer and communication at their research center for biodiversity and climate in Frankfurt since 2008 . From 2009 he heads the Department of Paleontology and Historical Geology of the Senckenberg Society.

As a scientist, he worked, among other things, on iron and manganese ore deposits.
