The Catholic School Center Bernhardinum in Fürstenwalde / Spree is currently the oldest Catholic school center in the state of Brandenburg . The school consists of a grammar school , a high school and a primary school .

history

On March 23, 1991, the Bishop of Berlin, Cardinal Sterzinsky, gave his consent to the establishment of a Catholic school in Fürstenwalde / Spree . In August 1991 the Bernhardinum School Center was founded on the site of the former Otto Ulinski Fürstenwalde Polytechnic and inaugurated a grammar school. The Bernhardinum has been the only private grammar school in Fürstenwalde since it was founded. In 1993 the school center was expanded to include a primary school. A branch office was opened in Petershagen. In 1995 the grammar school was recognized as a private school in Brandenburg.

In 1996 the new high school and a secondary school were inaugurated. In the 1999/2000 school year, the secondary school started operations. Since March 2001 the school has had its own four-field gym. The head of the school center hit the headlines because he faked threatening phone calls to the school center in autumn 2011. He then went into psychological treatment and did not return to his post until spring 2012. On September 17, 2011, the Bernhardinum School Center celebrated its 20th anniversary with a ceremony and a summer party. In 2015 the head of the grammar school and the head of the school center were released from their duties. In mid-September 2016, the 25th anniversary of the school center was celebrated with a week of festivities. At a newly launched cabaret evening, the school's students offered all parents, teachers and interested parties a wide variety of performances on a total of 5 stages spread across the site. The traditional summer party took place on Saturday, followed by a large alumni meeting.

building

Originally there were flat buildings of the previous school POS Otto Ulinski Fürstenwalde on the site of today's school , which were replaced by a new building in 1996, which was expanded again in 2011.

Activities and working groups

The Bernhardinum offers many opportunities for extracurricular activities. For example, primary school pupils can learn Arabic and / or Polish, play chess, take piano lessons, play football or do journalistic activities in the school's school newspaper.

High school and high school students can participate in the Bentra student company, sing in several choirs (school choir, gospel choir), play skat or chess, learn French, garden in the school garden or take part in various sporting work groups.
