Bertrand de Romans (* around 1515 in Figanières , † March 19, 1579 in Fayence ) was a French bishop.

life and career

Bertrand de Romans (Italian: Bertrando de Romanis ) was ordained a priest in 1546. He was a doctor of law (civil and canonical). From 1555 he was Prévôt (head of the cathedral chapter) in the diocese of Glandèves . After the office of several Italian bishops, the Concordat of 1516 , which provided for the appointment of the bishop by the French king, was first applied in the Diocese of Fréjus in 1565 . After the candidate who was in first place on the list of three died, Bertrand de Romans came in second. It was consecrated on January 6, 1567 in the cathedral of Fréjus . His twelve years in office were dominated by the civil war between Catholics and Protestants, which also raged in the diocese of Fréjus. When he died in 1579, he was buried in the parish church of Fayence.
