A vocational school for domestic economics is a vocational school in Germany that teaches the practical management of a private household .

Teaching goals and training

Home economics vocational schools primarily impart basic knowledge of cooking , sewing and handicrafts . The subjects biology, social studies, nutrition, home economics, religion, German, mathematics and optionally English are also offered. Attendance at school counts as the first year of apprenticeship in a domestic occupation (e.g. cook ). It is also possible to catch up on or improve a secondary school leaving certificate at this school . After one year of attendance, compulsory vocational school is fulfilled. After completing the two-year home economics school , it is possible to achieve the secondary school leaving certificate. The prerequisite for this is a secondary school leaving certificate with an average grade of 3.0 in the subjects English, German and mathematics.
