The vocational research and advisory institute for interdisciplinary technology design is a registered, non-profit association that has been providing research, advice and qualification for humane work design in organizations and companies in the field of work, health and learning since 1985.

history

The association was founded at a time when the topic of new information and communication technologies (PC) threatened to be used to fundamentally shift the balance of power between employees and employers . The fears were characterized by images of the “ transparent man ” and the “deserted factory”. The founding members had set themselves the goal of developing framework conditions for how the new technologies can be used by the actors in the interests of all. For this, however, it was necessary to bring precisely these actors, interest groups, affected parties and developers to one table - the idea of an interdisciplinary approach was born. To this day, the association is shaped by an interdisciplinary team of engineers, social scientists, psychologists, economists and ergonomists who work together for humane work in both company projects and state-funded research projects.

Research fields

In the early days, the topics of data protection , software customizing and software ergonomics were the main topics and fields of work. Since the late 1990s, the subject areas of BIT eV have visibly changed in the direction of occupational health and safety . With the Occupational Safety and Health Act , which came into force in 1996 , there was a need for action, particularly with regard to the humane design of work. The research context was therefore more and more characterized by implementation projects in the context of the design of changing working conditions, aging employees ( demographics ) and increasing digitization. Current research therefore deals with the topic of Work 4.0 and its impact on the existing occupational health and safety requirements.

Research projects (selection)

The institute conducts research for various state and federal ministries within the scope of its statutory mandate. The research content covers the areas of work, health and learning.

At work

The “ZuArbeit” project offers mechanical and plant engineering companies aids to successfully cope with the personal challenges of demographic and technological change in a modern working environment. This can only be done together - that is, in close dialogue between management, works councils and employees. The focus is on maintaining and promoting the employability of all workforce groups through work design and qualification measures - regardless of age, gender or hierarchical level.

textile-fit

The aim of the nationwide project is to maintain and promote the employability of employees and thus to secure the competitiveness of companies in global competition and in demographic change . A total of 11 companies from the textile and fashion industries took part and reported at the final conference.

CRAFT! T

With the project "Shaping the demographic change in the handicrafts and making successes visible", craft businesses (focus on metal and woodworking) were made fit for demographic change. The project was carried out jointly and in cooperation with the IKK within the framework of INQA.

Towards

In a nationwide survey of craft businesses it was investigated what need for support exists among owners and employees. The results of the survey show that existing support structures have so far been used to varying degrees. B. Help for self-help, information events, regional networks, individual advice and advice from health insurance companies. Craft businesses also have a strong interest in the further development of regional support structures. It is also noticeable that different focus topics could be identified depending on the region. The survey was carried out by the IKK classic health insurance company, the professional research and advisory institute for interdisciplinary technology design (BIT) and the Institute for Work and Health (ILAG), which also took on the project management. The project partners developed the content of the survey in close cooperation with representatives of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS), the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) and the Offensive Mittelstand, a network of the New Quality of Work initiative (INQA).

Quali steel

The aim and achievement of the project is to expand the training competence of the company social partners by

  • the employees as well as specialists and managers continuously participate in further training measures
  • the competence for learning-conducive and age-appropriate work organization is increased, tested in operational practice and becomes the practical knowledge of planners, designers and managers,
  • health promotion competence is strengthened,
  • new professional development paths and careers are designed and implemented,
  • Further training measures are target group-specific and carried out in an age-sensitive form and
  • a company training culture is firmly anchored in the company processes.

IG Metall is in charge of the project, BIT eV is involved as a project partner. The project is funded by the BMAS and the ESF as part of the "further education" initiative.

KobA - Cooperative in-company training

Many public statements point to the increasing shortage of applicants for in-company training. Many companies are looking for skilled workers and would train them themselves, but suitable candidates are difficult to find. A lack of personal performance and inadequate school qualifications are named in company surveys as the main reasons for vacant training positions.

Advice and qualification

In the same subject area, BIT eV therefore offers companies of different industries and sizes as well as public administrations a wide range of services, which is always operated with the aim of "helping people to help themselves". The motive has been the same since 1985: why do we need research, science and the acquisition of knowledge, if not to improve practical work. BIT eV is active for various educational institutions in the training and further education of employees in order to bring the idea of humane and humane working conditions into the companies.
