Inventory maintenance (library)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The maintenance of holdings in libraries includes all activities required to manage the library holdings .

All libraries, especially those with a large amount of valuable old stock , have to struggle with various problems such as paper decay , mold, damage to the cover, etc. Books and magazines must be checked for their external condition and, if necessary, cleaned, repaired or reintegrated in order to ensure their usability. The maintenance of the holdings also includes spoiling titles that are no longer usable as well as measures for microfilming and digitizing library holdings.

In the following federal states there are specific legal regulations for the removal of works from the reference inventory:

  • Baden-Württemberg (2015),
  • Bavaria (1998, guidelines for the separation, archiving and preservation of library material in the Bavarian State Libraries ),
  • Brandenburg (1994),
  • Hamburg (1989),
  • Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (2014),
  • Rhineland-Palatinate (2012),
  • Saxony (2001/13),
  • Saxony-Anhalt (2008).
