The Hesse cutlery factory is located in the Fleckenberg district of Schmallenberg and is now a museum.

The building was erected in 1865 and originally housed a wool spinning mill . Using the water power of the Lenne , Carl Hesse KG Fleckenberg produced cutlery and serving sets from 1938 to 1982 . At first, sheet iron was mainly processed. The production of stainless steel cutlery began around 1960. A 900 meter long mill ditch supplied the through-flow turbine with water. The energy was passed on directly via a transmission system or converted into electrical energy via a generator.

On November 29, 1990 the building was listed as a historical monument. Fleckenberg's local history association began to restore the factory and the old machines in 1997. He was supported by the North Rhine-Westphalia Foundation , among others . Since the opening on September 8, 2000, people have been showing how cutlery was made in the past. Art exhibitions and concerts are also held in the museum.
