Manos is a German band founded in Querfurt in Saxony-Anhalt in 1984 .

history

Manos was originally founded as a school band near Querfurt in the GDR under the name Löwenherz . In 1987 the band changed their name to Manos . The name came from a US comic book . Manos is a demon hunter there. In the GDR, however, metal was only a marginal phenomenon. In order to receive their classification, which was necessary at the time to make music professionally in the GDR, the band had to complain after a failed classification. Despite the classification, not much happened during the GDR era, apart from a few local appearances and a studio appointment with the youth broadcaster DT64 .

After the fall of the Wall , the band released several demo tapes . Particularly noteworthy is the concert in November 1990 in the Eiskeller in Leipzig as the opening act for the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem with the then singer Dead , who committed suicide around five months later (a recording of Mayhem's performance was later released under the title Live in Leipzig ). The breakthrough came with an EP named after the band and the debut album La Bumm - Die Fette (a reference to the film La Boum - Die Fete ) on the grindcore label Poserslaughter Records . In 1995 the second album Terrible Reality followed . In 1996 the album Christmas Fever was released as an in-house production, after which the band switched to Morbid Records , where the albums At Mania of Death (1998) and Living Burial (2000) were released. In 2000 the in-house production Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen also appeared . Bigger appearances followed at Wacken Open Air and With Full Force . Internationally in Switzerland , Slovenia and Slovakia . Her titles are also played in Spain , Russia and the United States .

The last album to date, Genocide , was released again in 2007 via Morbid Records. For their 25th anniversary in 2009, the band organized a birthday festival with friendly groups like Postmortem and Die Apokalyptischen Reiter . On December 8, 2011 the band announced a longer break on Facebook and invited all fans to the farewell concert on December 16, 2011 in Halle (Saale) .

Since 2015 the band can be seen live again.

style

Manos plays a mixture of fun metal , thrash metal and grindcore . Due to their live performances with numerous jokes and their humorous songs, the band is known and loved in the East German metal scene in particular. The band alludes to various metal clichés or parodies well-known bands and / or songs. However, due to their humor, the band is not popular everywhere and for many critics only works as a live band, while the sound carriers do not necessarily meet the taste of the reviewers.
