Beta hemolysis on blood agar plate

Among β-hemolysis ( beta hemolysis ) or complete hemolysis is defined as the dissolution or hemolysis of erythrocytes by destroying their cell membrane in a blood agar -Platte by Betahämolysin . This creates a bright, translucent zone in the blood agar. This phenomenon is used in medical diagnostics to identify beta-hemolytic pathogens (e.g. streptococci and staphylococci ). Beta hemolysis is differentiated from alpha hemolysis , which causes the blood agar to turn green.
