Beta Serpentis

Beta Serpentis (β Ser) is the name of the fifth brightest star in the constellation Snake ( lat: Serpens).

In classical Chinese astronomy , Beta Serpentis is called 周, the character that stands for the Zhou dynasty .

Beta Serpentis is a multiple star system consisting of three stars that move around a common center of gravity . The main star has an apparent brightness of 3.65 m and belongs to the spectral class A3V. The companion stars have brightnesses of 9.9 m and 10.7 m and angular distances of 31 " and 207", respectively.

The Beta Serpentis system is 153 light years away from Earth ( Hipparcos database).
