Company garage Leopoldau

The Leopoldau company garage in Katharina-Scheiter-Gasse in the 21st district of Floridsdorf is the largest of three bus garages operated by Wiener Linien .

history

The Leopoldau company garage was built between 2005 (groundbreaking ceremony on June 22nd) and the opening on July 2nd, 2007 on the northern part of the site of the former Leopoldau gasworks .

When the new large garage went into operation, the previous company garages in Grinzinger Allee (during the night between 23 and 24 June) and Vorgartenstraße (during the night between 19 and 20 May) were closed in accordance with the Wiener Linien garage concept . With the exception of lines 35A, N35, N41 and N43, which were moved to the Spetterbrücke garage, all bus lines and vehicles came to the new Leopoldau company garage.

Of the 480 or so city buses, parking spaces are provided for either 180 normal buses or 120 articulated buses.

Katharina-Scheiter-Gasse on the northern edge of the area was also created especially for the Leopoldau large bus garage.

The liquid gas filling station with the connected liquid gas storage facility made technically complex safety measures necessary.

The Leopoldau large bus garage, from which 23 daily bus routes and 8 NightLine routes are operated, is the workplace for around 540 bus drivers who work in shifts, around 140 people in the workshop and 50 people in the administration area.

The large bus garage was built according to plans by the architects Fasch & Fuchs (Hemma Fasch and Jakob Fuchs) on a usable area of 18,154 square meters on a plot of 62,000 square meters at a cost of around 36 million euros.

The original plan to build the workshop and storage area as a compact facility with a shared, partly green and partly transparent roof, was rejected by Wiener Linien as the client due to fire protection concerns.
