The Betsileo woolly lemur ( Avahi betsileo ) is a primate species from the lemur group . It was only described in 2007 as a separate species from the eastern woolly lemur .

Betsileo lemurs reach a head body length of around 29 centimeters, the tail measures an additional 31 centimeters. Their weight is around 1.05 kilograms. The skin is as with all woolly dense and woolly, it is colored in a bright red-brown on the back and on the outer sides of the limbs, the abdomen is gray. The tail is long and bushy and colored reddish brown. The head is rounded, the fur on top is very bushy, the face is gray in color. The eyes are large, but the ears are small.

Betsileo lemurs are native to Madagascar , where they inhabit the rainforests on the east coast. The exact extent of its range is not known, so far the species is only known from the Fandriana region. The Mangoro River is likely to form the northern limit of their occurrence, the Mananjary the southern limit.

The way of life of this newly described species is not known, presumably it corresponds to that of the other woolly lemurs. As a result, they are nocturnal tree dwellers, who climb and jump vertically, live in monogamous family groups and feed primarily on leaves.

Their degree of risk is also unclear. The IUCN lists the species under “too little data available” ( data deficient ).
