Betty Wishart

Betty R. Wishart (born September 22, 1947 in Lumberton , North Carolina ) is an American composer and music teacher.

Wishart studied at Queens College (New York) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . Her main teachers were Roger Hannay , Richard Bunger Evans , Donald Waxman and Michael Zenge . She teaches piano at the University of North Carolina. She was also the music theory and composition director for the North Carolina Music Teachers Association and president of the Southeastern Composers' League .

In addition to chamber music works and pieces for solo instruments, Wishart also composed choral and orchestral works. Her compositions have been performed in the USA, France and Great Britain, Japan and Korea. She has received awards from ASCAP (1996-2007), the National League of American Pen Women , the American College of Musicians, the Composers Guild and was Composer in Residence at the Weymouth Center for the Arts .
