The Between the Sheets ( english about for Between the Sheets is) an alcoholic cocktail of brandy , white rum , triple sec (orange liqueur) and lemon juice . The drink is listed by the International Bartenders Association along with other well-known cocktails in the category The Unforgettables (for example: The Unforgettable ).

history

Harry MacElhone, the founder of Harry's New York Bar in Paris, is considered the inventor of the Between the Sheets . He is said to have mixed the cocktail for the first time in 1930. Others attribute the invention of the drink to a Mr. Polly, former manager of the luxury hotel Berkeley in London. Still other sources name French brothels, where the drink was drunk by prostitutes, as the origin.

Preparation and variations

According to the International Bartenders Association, a preparation is made with

  • 3 cl cognac
  • 3 cl white rum
  • 3 cl triple sec
  • 2 cl lemon juice

recommended. The ingredients are placed in a cocktail shaker, shaken on a lot of ice and then strained into a pre-chilled cocktail glass .

The cocktail is a modification of another well-known cocktail, the sidecar . For a Between the Sheets, however, less cognac and additional rum is used. Sometimes the drink is also called Maiden's Prayer , sometimes this name refers to a variation that replaces cognac and rum with gin and uses orange juice in addition to lemon .
