Movement for socialism

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Movement for Socialism (FSO, French Mouvement pour le Socialisme, MPS, Italian Movimento per il Socialismo, MPS ) is a socialist organization founded in Switzerland in 2002 . It belongs to the radical left and has observer status in the United Secretariat of the Fourth International .

history

The FSO has connections in terms of personnel and content to the Trotskyist movement in Switzerland. Its organizational roots lie in the Revolutionary Marxist League (RML) founded in 1969, which was later renamed the Socialist Workers' Party (SAP). In contrast to its historical predecessors, the FSO refrains from describing itself as "Trotskyist".

It was founded in March 2002 following the peak of the anti-globalization movement in Switzerland.

The BFS was also involved in the strike at the SBB maintenance branch in Bellinzona in 2008. In addition to the activities in the trade union bodies, information and support campaigns were carried out throughout Switzerland.

In a Swiss-wide context, the FSO first attracted much attention in January 2005. At that time, as part of an alliance, she started a campaign for a left-wing No to the planned expansion of the free movement of people . The organization considered in particular the accompanying measures as insufficient. Since the Swiss People's Party (SVP) also took the referendum, the FSO was faced with the accusation of racism.

activities

Every year in January, the FSO organizes the Other Davos in Zurich , a political counter-event to the World Economic Forum . The focus is on the networking of various social movements and an internationalist perspective on global problems.

In the canton of Ticino, the FSO / MPS has three out of 90 members in the cantonal parliament .

MPS Tessin publishes the Solidarietà magazine.

On March 6, 2018, the FSO called for a demonstration against the performance of Stephen Bannon in Zurich, who had accepted an invitation from the Swiss publisher Roger Köppel . Around 100 people took part in the non-approved demonstration.
