Chain of evidence

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Evidence chain (Engl. Chain of Custody) documented the flow of tracks or track carriers through several stages to the introduction of a piece of evidence . It should enable traceability and verification of authenticity and, if necessary, integrity . The chain of evidence is therefore intended to ensure that e.g. For example, only "original" evidence that has not been tampered with is presented to a court.

One speaks of a gapless or closed chain of evidence when the flow and all actions carried out, such as handover, sealing, controls or analyzes have been carried out and documented according to generally recognized procedures. In practice, accredited laboratories are commissioned to do this, and their processes are regularly checked.
