The Roman Catholic parish church Niederabsdorf is located in the village of Niederabsdorf in the municipality of Ringelsdorf-Niederabsdorf in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . It is dedicated to the feast of the Assumption of Mary and is located in the Deanery Zistersdorf in the Vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church is raised in the north of the village of Niederabsdorf. It was built together with the castle as a fortified complex on the former local mountain of the village. Originally it was surrounded by a cemetery.

history

The parish was founded before 1200. The Romanesque nave has a core from the beginning of the 13th century. The Gothic choir dates from the 14th century. In 1665 the church was given a baroque style .

architecture

Church exterior

Together with the castle, the church formed a fortified complex. The church consists of a Romanesque nave, Gothic choir and a tower. The four-storey church tower with a pointed helmet, possibly a former defensive tower, has round-arched sound windows . The high nave is kept simple. Due to the reinforcement of the walls of the nave, raised blind arcades were formed. There are bezel windows in these. There are buttresses with water hammer on the Gothic choir . At the end of the choir there is a re-exposed, two-lane, early Gothic tracery window . The two-story sacristy adjoins the south side of the choir . To the south of the nave is a mighty crucifixion group from the first half of the 18th century.

Church interior

The three-bay nave of the church has a barrel vault with stitch caps . The vault rests on flat wall templates. The easternmost yoke is extended like a transept by shallow wall niches. The organ loft swings forward slightly and is arched with a crossbone . The choir is slightly raised and drawn in compared to the nave. it has a barrel vault with stitch caps and closes with a 5/8 end. There are rectangular plastered areas in the barrel vault. The sacristy to the south has a groin vault . Above it is a stately oratory . In the choir there is an inscription stone that refers to the construction and the furnishings. It was donated in 1665 by Count Ferdinand Hohenfeld .

Furnishing

The classifying high altar dates from the third quarter of the 19th century. The altarpiece depicts the Assumption of Mary. It was painted in 1871 by Josef Keßler . The cafeteria is presented. The tabernacle is flanked by adoring angels. The baroque side altars date from the second half of the 17th century. These are strict columnar altars with blown gables. The altarpiece on the right side altar shows Saint Sebastian and Saint Roch . The picture was painted at the end of the 17th century. In the extract there is a picture of the Holy Spirit . On the left side altar there is an iconic image of grace, which may have been modeled on Maria Pötsch . In the extract is a picture of God the Father .

The pulpit is kept simple and dates from the second half of the 17th century. In the church there is also a mighty baroque crucifix from the 17th century. The Stations of the Cross and the pews date from the first half of the 19th century. The font is baroque and was created at the end of the 17th century. In the church there is also a remarkable epitaph for Hartmann Prince Liechtenstein with rich figural decoration. It has an inscription cartouche with a putti frame . Above it is the coat of arms of the Liechtenstein family from 1728. The epitaph is documented by Josef Pliemb .

The organ was built by Alois Mauracher in 1895 .

graveyard

There are two baroque gravestones from the 18th century in the former cemetery.
