Niederabsdorf Castle

Niederabsdorf Castle is a former castle complex in the village of Niederabsdorf in the municipality of Ringelsdorf-Niederabsdorf in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . The remains of the castle are under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The remains of the castle are raised in the north of the village of Niederabsdorf. The church was built together with the parish church as a fortified complex on the former local mountain of the village. Only the Meierhof remains of the castle itself.

history

Niederabsdorf Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1045. It was originally owned by Niederaltaich Monastery . From 1406 the Liechtenstein family took over the rule as bailiffs and from 1575 as rule. With short interruptions, the facility is still owned by the Liechtenstein family and has been an important refuge. The gate tower was built at the beginning of the 19th century . In 1844 it was converted into a sugar factory. Today it serves as a farm yard. The west wing was replaced by a silo system.

architecture

The former castle is a four-wing complex around a rectangular courtyard. The facility is consistently two-storey. The gate tower, which is centrally located in the main axis, has a flat roof and five storeys. A passage with a basket arch portal goes through the gate tower. The facade is kept simple, the corners are accentuated by plastered corner blocks. Below the roof is a cordon cornice. The facades are partly unadorned and unstructured and partly changed.

Inside are mostly storage rooms.
