Bhartrihari
Bhartrihari ( Sanskrit : भर्तृहरि, Bhartṛhari; lived between the 5th and 7th centuries) was a North Indian poet and court poet. He was the first Indian poet to become known in Europe through a translation of his work.
Bhartrihari is considered an important representative of Sanskrit poetry and the author of the Subhashita Trishati collection of sayings (300 wise sayings). The assembly, which is popular in India, consists of 100 sayings each about love, correct behavior and religious asceticism. In the 17th century the work came to Europe through Dutch missionaries and was translated for the first time. Its translation from Sanskrit into German was first published in 1835.
