Beaver tunnel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Biberstollen (also: Piberstollen) is like the mountain smock a representative uniform of the miners .

The decorated, festive garment was previously only allowed to be worn by mountain officers and engineers . The name for the garment comes from the Ober-Biberstollen, a copper tunnel in Herrengrund near Neusohl in Upper Hungary, where this costume is said to have originated. Schemnitz is also mentioned as the place of origin of the name . In the meantime, aristocrats and lovers of tradition can also make this uniform, which - according to the protocol - is even approved for the Vienna Opera Ball . Accordingly, the Biberstollen counts as a tailcoat equivalent (large formal suit ), the mountain smock as a tuxedo equivalent (small formal suit ). The Biberstollen can now also be seen at weddings and is used by all Leoben student associations as batch wicks.
