Biblioteca Nacional Aruba
The National Library of Aruba (BNA) is publicly available, central and Scientific Library of Aruba . The head office is located in the capital Oranjestad . A branch is located in the second largest city of San Nicolas.
history
The literature collection goes back to various earlier collections from 1908, the holdings of which were taken over by the BNA. The word library usually means a collection of books, but the library has always been a cultural center in Aruba, especially in terms of status . In 1986 the library was named Biblioteca Nacional.
Services
The BNA not only stores historical manuscripts and published books, newspapers, magazines, reports and reports, but also has audiovisual material available to everyone - regardless of religion, political convictions or social position of the user. The literature inventory of more than 100,000 media includes editions in different languages such as Dutch, Papiamento , English, Latin and Spanish. The collection is constantly being expanded through purchases.
Reading room
All books and documents, including those that cannot be borrowed, can be studied in the reading room. Encyclopedias, dictionaries and other documentation are also located in this room.
School library
The school library service (SMD) is open especially for students and teachers five days a week. SMD offers two collections, the short-term loan collection to support teaching and the longer-term AC collection for schools, teachers, smaller school libraries, and other educational institutions. A special section is dedicated to the library for children and young people up to the age of 18.
Special department
The library department Arubiana / Caribiana has an extensive collection of atlases, encyclopedias, historical books, reference books, journals and documents that cannot be borrowed, but which can be copied in the library department for a fee.
Holiday reading program
A holiday reading program on a specific theme is organized every year. This summer vacation program is held to encourage reading among children.
Internet
The Centro di informacion digital offers BNA users access to the Internet in order to search for information there. The 20 or so installed computers are available to users free of charge and can also be used for sending e-mails, chatting and scanning paper documents.
Digital newsletters
Users can register with their e-mail address, they will then be informed about new additions to the library and will also receive the latest dates of lectures and exhibitions taking place in the rooms of the Biblioteca Nacional.
