The Public Jonas Lankutis Library of Klaipėda District Municipality ( Lithuanian Klaipėdos rajono savivaldybės Jono Lankučio viešoji biblioteka is) a municipal public library in Gargždai of Klaipėda District Municipality , Lithuania . The library has 60 employees, including professional librarians . There is a department in Priekulė city and 25 village branches in the municipality.
history
In the 19th century there was a library in the Gargždai manor (owner Eugenijus Ronne). In 1932 the youth organization Jaunalietuviai had a reading room and a bookshop in Gargždai.
The establishment of the public library was initiated in 1939. The German culture in the Memel region was also looked after . In 1950 it was decided to set up a typical Soviet-Lithuanian Rajon library . Since 2000 it has been named after Jonas Lankutis (1925–1995). Since 2002 the library has been headed by director Juozas Gutauskas.
