Bibliothek und Wissenschaft (BuW) is a book and library science journal that has been published annually by Verlag Harrassowitz since 1964 . With a few exceptions in English, all articles appear in German.

The yearbook publishes studies on individual texts, collections and sources as well as cultural and scientific-historical contributions on the history and methods of library work and on bibliography. In contrast to other specialist library journals , daily reports and event notices and reviews are not printed, rather the focus is on independent research articles. The history and organization of the libraries are just as much an object of research as the holdings they preserve. Accordingly, library and science sees itself as an interdisciplinary forum for the process of cultural transmission through libraries.

The first years of library and science had the subtitle "a yearbook of Heidelberg librarians", this addition has been omitted since the eighth year (1972). The journal is edited by a college of scholars and librarians. The editor-in-chief is currently Professor Elmar Mittler , emeritus director of the Lower Saxony State and University Library in Göttingen.
