BienenSchweiz (previously: VDRB ) is the umbrella organization of the beekeeping sections of German-speaking Switzerland and its cantonal associations and represents around 14,000 beekeepers .

tasks

The beekeepers in Switzerland are organized into three beekeeping associations according to the language area and are united under the umbrella of the Association of Swiss Beekeeping Associations. There are also various associations that pursue special beekeeping interests.

The Central Board of BienenSchweiz works together with the Center for Bee Research in Liebefeld, as well as with the federal offices responsible for bees, with parliamentarians, with colleagues at home and abroad and the beekeeping sections. BienenSchweiz takes care of beekeeping, bee health, honey quality and its marketing, training of beekeeping staff, managing the office with services for members, publishing the beekeeping calendar and the monthly Swiss bee newspaper. In addition, they deal with current topics such as fire blight / streptomycin, genetic engineering and the development of the apisuisse competence center .

education

Due to this structure of beekeeping in Switzerland, there is no vocational training at the level of basic vocational training. Because of the low demand, such is not planned.

The beekeeping associations organize basic courses for new beekeepers as an introduction to beekeeping, with around 700 to 900 participants per year. Around 500 to 750 new beekeepers are trained each year in the BienenSchweiz association; there are around 150 in the SAR (association for the French part of Switzerland) and 209 in the STA (association for the Italian part of Switzerland).

further education

The regional and cantonal associations organize further training events for their beekeepers, which keep the beekeepers up to date, especially in the area of bee health and the corresponding preventive measures, and where the beekeepers exchange their experience. Special courses are the queen breeding courses. The users of the gold label and the seal of quality are obliged to attend two further training events of the sections per year. Each section offers 5 to 6 further training events annually.
