Karl Gottlob Christian Gärttner , von Gärttner from 1818 , (born September 14, 1788 in Bietigheim ; † July 18, 1861 Stuttgart ) was a Württemberg administrative officer and finance minister.

Life

Karl Gärttner completed an apprenticeship with the town clerk in Schorndorf until 1806, the year the Kingdom of Württemberg was founded . After the camera exam in August 1806, he continued to work there as a trainee until December 1809, before moving to the camera office in Besigheim . From October 1810 he was assistant in the tax audit department and from 1812 secretary in the department of finance (Württemberg finance ministry). In May 1813 he was appointed secret cabinet secretary. He reached further ranks in 1816 as Legation Councilor and in 1817 as Privy Legation Councilor. In 1824 he became president of the court domain chamber and in 1832, as a state councilor, he was a full member of the secret council . 1836 began his membership in the board of the Württemberg railway company. Gärttner was one of the key figures on the way to the establishment of the Württemberg state railway . In 1841 he chaired the Festival Committee that the implementation of the celebrations for the Silver Jubilee of I. King William organized. In the same year, Gärttner received the title of Privy Councilor with the title of Excellence. From August 31, 1844 to March 9, 1848, Gärttner was Minister of State in the Department of Finance . The responsibility for the railway system, which previously lay with the Ministry of the Interior, has now been transferred to the Ministry of Finance. During his tenure as finance minister, the kingdom's first rail link from Cannstatt to Untertürkheim was opened . The further expansion of the railway line to the north and south was quickly tackled. As a result of the March Revolution, the Römer government was formed in Württemberg , so that Gärttner had to hand over the finance department to his successor Adolf Goppel and retired.

Since January 1842, Gärttner was appointed for life member of the Württemberg Chamber of Class Lords and also made a contribution to the railway system in Württemberg there. In addition to his work as a ministerial official and member of parliament, he was also involved in leading positions in a number of associations and foundations, including the Association of German Farmers and Foresters since 1842 and the Queen Charlotte Mathilde Foundation since 1848.
