Beer nail
Beer nails are conical , hemispherical or pyramid-shaped fittings on the outer covers of books that are used in student pubs or commers . First and foremost, these are song books, the so-called Kommers books ; but also guest books are sometimes provided with beer nails.
These books are usually on the pub table during the pub and are therefore exposed to the risk of coming into contact with spilled beer and being damaged as a result. The book covers are lifted several millimeters from the table by the beer nails and thus mostly stay dry.
Other books that can be assumed to be used lying on dirty or wet surfaces, such as cookbooks , are also sometimes provided with beer nails.
