Bilbao vessel
The Bilbao vessel is the handle of a Spanish military sword that was in use until the 19th century. The vessel consists of the following handle elements:
- Handle bar
- vertically moving quillons
- front and rear guard
- an oval, strongly curved guard plate , obliquely to the longitudinal axis up to the height of the guard
- Handle fully wrapped with wire
- four attached longitudinal bars on the handle above the handle winding
- Vessel mark with "Bilbao" (probably the place of manufacture)
This weapon was also called "Bilbo" or "Bilbawe" because of this marking.
