Handlebar refers to a handle that is primarily used as hand protection for handles and stapling devices, tools or weapons. Handlebars are occasionally confused with bow-type handles or with carrying and opening handles.

In the case of handicraft tools, the handle is used to protect against injuries. Wider temples can also function as a dirt repellent. With hacksaws , not the entire hanger, but only the hand guard is referred to as the handle.
