Image search engine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An image search engine (also visual search or Visual Search ) is a search engine that - mostly in the freely accessible Internet searches for images -. Image search engines evaluate the file names of the images and the verbal context in which they are located or other metadata . There are also search engines that can automatically recognize the image content ( Content Based Image Retrieval ). In addition to the web combed by Google / Picsearch and other providers of image search engines, there are numerous image databases in the deep web , some of which are freely accessible, require free registration or are chargeable. You use your own internal image search engine. Examples of an image search engine are Google Image Search, Google Goggles , facial recognition software , and QR code readers.

Legal issues

As a rule, the images displayed by image search engines are protected by copyright and may not be used without the consent of the copyright holder. The operation of image search engines, which, according to German case law , could interfere with the rights of the rights holder by displaying preview images, is largely viewed as permissible by copyright lawyers.
