Giphy is an American online database and search engine that allows users to search and share animated GIF files. Giphy is based in New York and Los Angeles and is founded by Jace Cooke and Alex Chung. On Friday May 15, 2020, Giphy was bought by Facebook .

Giphy gifs can be sent by email, in Facebook posts, comments or messengers, Twitter , Microsoft Teams or in a WhatsApp chat. Facebook has added a GIF button to the comment function. iPhone users can use Giphy content in their own photo media library by clicking on the “+” icon .
