Part of the family tree of the Billunger and the Odonen (8th to 11th centuries)

Billung (or Billing ) (* around 880 - May 26th ) is the legendary progenitor of the Saxon noble family of Billungers . On May 26th, the memorial entry for Count Billing, who died on that day , can be found in the necrology of the Church of St. Michael in Lüneburg . There are no other reports about him. For the first time in the house chronicle of the St. Michael monastery in Lüneburg, which was written between 1229 and 1233, it then states that Hermann Billung's father was a Count Billing . The alleged progenitor of the Billunger family should not be confused with the Saxon Count Billing attested in the period from 937–966 .
