Tianjin Binhai Library (天津 滨海 图书馆) is a large library in Tianjin ( Binhai District ), People's Republic of China. The Binhai Cultural Center is the sponsor . The modern structure, which opened in October 2017, was designed by the Dutch architecture firm MVRDV in collaboration with the local Design Institute (TUPDI). The library is part of the Tianjin Library, one of the oldest public lending libraries in China.
The five-storey, white futuristic building has an area of 33,700 m². The construction time was 3 years. Due to the short construction time, many of the shelves in the main library are not filled with books. These are largely stored in external classic reading rooms.
The bookshelves are terraced and across all floors. The shapes are curved and mostly cascaded. In the middle there is an eye-shaped dome (auditorium).
There are currently 200,000 books; 1.2 million are planned; many bookshelves are covered with imitations (photographs).
