Biographical Woordenboek van Nederland

The Biografisch Woordenboek van Nederland 1880–2000 (BWN) ( German : Biographical Dictionary of the Netherlands ) is a Dutch national biography that was published between 1979 and 2009 in six parts. It includes the short biographies of 2071 well-known Dutch people from the 20th century and the late 19th century. It is the follow-up project of the Nieuw Nederlandsch Biografisch Woordenboek (NNBW) and goes back to an initiative of the historian Ivo Schöffer . The work is finished. Entries on people from the period 1780 to 1830 have been developed since 2010 in the Biografisch Woordenboek van Nederland 1780–1830 project .

The biographical reference work has been available free of charge on the website of the Instituut voor Nederlandse Geschiedenis (Institute for Dutch History, ING) since 2002 .
