The train station in Bad Schwalbach (to 1927 Langenschwalbach ) is a through station on the northeast edge of the Hessian county town of Bad Schwalbach . The city center with the Kurhaus is about one and a half kilometers away. The station on the Aartalbahn is a registered cultural monument .

history

The Bad Schwalbach station was opened on November 15, 1889 as Langenschwalbach station on the Aartalbahn , the neighboring stations are Bleidenstadt and the now closed Adolfseck stop . The trains first ran to Wiesbaden Rheinbahnhof before it was replaced by Wiesbaden Hauptbahnhof in 1906 . In the Wilhelmine era , the railway enabled the connection between the “world spa town” of Wiesbaden and the women's spa in Langenschwalbach . On May 1st, 1894, the last missing section of the Aartalbahn between Bad Schwalbach and Zollhaus was put into operation and from then on continuous train runs from Wiesbaden to Diez and Limburg were carried out. On September 1, 1927, the station was renamed Bad Schwalbach .

On September 25, 1983, regular passenger traffic ceased. Bad Schwalbach is therefore one of the few German district towns that are no longer served by scheduled rail traffic. In 1987 the buildings and technical systems along the line and the train station were placed under monument protection. The museum trains of the Nassauische Touristik-Bahn (NTB), which ran from Wiesbaden-Dotzheim from March 28, 1991 , ended in Bad Schwalbach until May 29, 1994. After that the traffic was extended to Hohenstein .

A resumption of passenger traffic between Bad Schwalbach and Wiesbaden is under discussion as part of the Citybahn Wiesbaden project . These plans had previously existed between 1998 and 2001. There were also plans to reactivate the Aartalbahn as a light rail or regional train.

Investments

The station offers the eastern house platform and an intermediate platform for passenger traffic . There are also additional tracks that can be used for freight transport and to move the locomotive and are now used to park vehicles from the museum railway. To supply the steam locomotives a standing water crane available. Today's connection to the local traffic of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) is the nearby bus stop Bahnhofstrasse . Currently, the museum operation of the Nassau Tourist Railway is prevented by defective switches in the train station, which have not yet been repaired, although the district has entered financial resources in the budget for this. The costs were estimated at € 150,000 in 2008.

Listed buildings

The laying of the foundation stone of the reception building in 1888 enabled the opening in the following year, in 1908 it was expanded and, according to the press at the time, was “... in a pleasant, Gothic style, perfectly adapted to the idyllic bathing conditions”. A waiting hall and another outbuilding with exposed framework belonged to the complex. The facades were clad with two-tone bricks, and roofs and dormers were often decorated. A curved wooden staircase leads to the two upper floors. The preserved two-storey reception building, which has been a listed building since 1987, has been plastered in the meantime and the decorative elements have been largely removed. The now run-down building was renovated together with other architecturally insignificant outbuildings by the new owner, a roofing company. There is a restaurant in the reception building, which is also the venue for the Waldbühne cabaret theater. The furnishings of the ticket office, a wooden waiting bench and the original entrance door have been preserved.

The locomotive shed ( ), built from 1896 to 1905 south of the station, offered space for four locomotives and was connected to a turntable that has since been dismantled . The brick building was decorated with arched and round windows, friezes and the gable. The shed is now used as a warehouse.

To the north of the station, at the intersection of the tracks with Bahnhofstrasse, there is a simple brick building with a gable roof and arched windows, in which the local railway maintenance office was housed. The single-storey house has remained relatively unchanged since its construction around 1900.
