Birkendorf is a district of the district town of Biberach an der Riss , which was incorporated in 1864.

location

Birkendorf is located northeast of the core town of Biberach on the Riss River and borders the Aspach industrial park to the north.

history

Around 1258, Birkendorf was first mentioned as "Birchidorf". Until about 1520 the village was owned by the Biberach hospital. Originally Birkendorf was probably under the rule of Warthausen .

There were several mills along the Riss in Birkendorf. About 700 meters from the Ulmer Tor in Biberach is the Obere Mühle, which has been preserved to this day and is privately owned. It was first mentioned in 1350 by Julius Mühlschlegel.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Boehringer Ingelheim company , the largest employer in Biberach, is located in Birkendorf . Part of the development on the northern Birkendorfer Strasse and Meisenweg was built as company apartments in the 1950s and 1960s and has since been sold.

On site there is the St. Franziskus kindergarten, a kindergarten run by the association learning support , a primary school and a language therapy school.
