Bischoffscher Hof

The Bischoffsche Hof is a listed courtyard in the Magdeburg district of Westerhüsen .

architecture

The not completely preserved Vierseitenhof is located at Kieler Straße 6 in the immediate vicinity of the Elbe and the Westerhüsen ferry . The current structure of the courtyard goes back to the 18th and 19th centuries. The previous development fell victim to a major fire on May 18, 1750.

The two-story house may date from 1767, or at least from the mid or late 18th century. The current appearance has remained largely unchanged since 1850. Its eaves side faces the street on the west side. It is crowned by a steep gable roof . The ground floor of the building consists of plastered masonry, whereby the very thick wall of the ground floor on the west side dates from the time before the fire. The upper floor is a half-timbered construction , but on the south gable it is a massive construction. To the north and south of the house there is a prestigious brick courtyard entrance with an archway. The southern entrance to the courtyard is decorated with decorations above the segment arch .

The large half-timbered barn closing the property to the east towards the Elbe was demolished at the beginning of the 21st century. The farm buildings on the north and south sides were built from rubble and bricks in the 19th century . The barn on the north side was built in 1863, the barn on the south side in 1867. Both new barns replace previous buildings. The southern stable was made wider in the new building and also used a piece that previously belonged to the street.

The parapet cornice is made of bricks. The same applies to the belt cornice, which is particularly emphasized by a tooth cut . The commercial buildings have tall rectangular windows on the ground floor, which are only indicated on the gable side. These windows are decorated with brick surrounds. There are twin niches on the long side above the windows, and a triple niche was placed over the window on the gable side. There is an inscription on the courtyard 1767–1967, GW

The courtyard is one of the few objects that reminds of the rural character of the later industrial community of Westerhüsen.

In front of the stone step on the ground there was a sandstone slab with an inscription, which, however, was described as heavily weathered in parts as early as the middle of the 20th century. The inscription refers to the great fire of 1750 and reads:

“At 6 o'clock in the morning, God let us have
an unexpected fire.
But what he laid down through this fire
, we have, thank God, built up again.
God take everything under his protection and Power
u. protect us from misfortune day and Night!

Martin Greve - Maria Schraderin
Anno 1750, d. 1. Octobris "

history

In the first half of the 19th century the farm belonged to the tillage man Joh. Andreas Hennige Bischoff . He died on July 17, 1843 at the age of only 39. His wife Anna Elisabeth Bischoff , née Günther, married at the age of 38 on August 22, 1844, Joh. Moritz Schlueter, 10 years his junior . In 1864 Friedrich Bischoff , a son of the wife from his first marriage, took over the farm. Schlüter retired on the Alt Westerhüsen 60 property he had acquired and died on January 30, 1885. He left a business book in which the economic conditions of the farm from the end of 1844 to 1859 are documented. In 1862 a ferry house was built facing the Elbe for the Westerhüsen ferry located there. In 1942 a wheelwright workshop was set up in the northern stable .
