Bishop's hat
Coat of arms with hat (bishop)

The bishop's hat ( chapeau d'évêque ), a large headgear of the bishops , is a common coat of arms in heraldry and is represented as a flat green hat with six hanging tassels in three rows (3: 2: 1) on both sides. It can be in the heraldic shield and floating over the shield. Its shape is reminiscent of the cardinal's hat , which is flat and red and has 15 tassels each. The archbishop's hat is represented with ten tassels . Its color is also green. These so-called ecclesiastical hats are used in church heraldry for the difference in rank due to color and number of tassels .
