The Bishop's Palace ( Maltese Palazz tal-Isqof , English Palace of the Bishop ) is a listed building in Vittoriosa (Birgu), a municipality in Malta . It was the seat of the bishops of Malta until 1620 .

The building was bought from the family of Gian Francesco Abela in 1542 . In addition to the bishop's residence, the episcopal curia , the ecclesiastical court and a prison were also located here . When the Order of Malta made Valletta the new capital in 1572 , the bishop left his official residence and the curia in Vittoriosa (Birgu). The local St. Lorenz Church served as a bishop 's church alongside the cathedral in Mdina . The building underwent numerous renovations until Bishop Baldassarre Cagliares moved the bishopric to Valletta in 1620. But Bishop Bellaguer enlarged the building in the 17th century and left it to the episcopal curia. The building was later used by the bishops as accommodation for pastoral trips, and in the 20th century it was used as a kindergarten.
