Bitslip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Bitslip (engl. For bit slip ) is in the transmission technology the loss of bits in the data transfer , the on differing clock rates is due to the transmitter and receiver.

If the receiver is clocked faster than the transmitter, it inserts the last information again in the absence of new information.

If it is clocked more slowly, so that it does not blank out the received signal quickly enough, it loses information.

If the transmitted signal is structured in a byte or word-oriented manner, the byte or word synchronization is also lost with a bitslip . The receiver must then be resynchronized.
