15-year-old Eva is fat and therefore feels unloved. The only cure for grief is to eat, thinks Eva. But one day she meets Michel, who makes her feel completely unfamiliar feelings. They fall in love, but Eva is still not happy because there are numerous family and friendship conflicts. There is hardly any chance for Eva to lose weight because she does not receive any support at home.
But later the time span in Eva's school life ends well, not because she is thin, but because she has managed to accept herself as she is.

Ursula Bode from the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung writes about the book: “ ... briefly told, the novel looks like a patchwork of psychological set pieces: clichés of complexes, conflicts, problems. That this becomes a picture of time when reading, an honest representation and therefore an exciting book, is surprising in this first work. Mirjam Pressler does not leave out reflections on young people in her young readers in a tiresome way. She portrays them. She writes as if she were right in the middle. "
