Bixi (mythology)
Bixi ( Chinese 贔 屭 / 赑 屃 , Pinyin Bìxì , W.-G. Pi-hsi ) is a character from Chinese mythology . It is a creature with the body of a turtle and the head of a dragon . As a sculpture, it is part of East Asian architecture.
Bixi is one of the dragon king's nine sons. As a sculpture, the motif can be found in the bases of monuments and gravestones, but also in bridge pillars and archways. They can be found in East Asia, including Vietnam, Mongolia, Korea, Japan and parts of Russia.
