The blower was a city gate to the city of Basel and was once part of the Basel city wall . It was the second city gate in Kleinbasel next to the Riehentor and was named after the monastery of St. Blasien , whose administrator had his court nearby. It was demolished in 1867 as part of the Basel City Expansion Act of 1859.
